What to do in Florida City?

My dad lives in Florida City and I have been visiting him every other year for the past seven years but all we seem to do is go to places to eat and I%26#39;m getting a bit bored now. I have been to the Keys and Base side but I found it a bit boring.

My fiance and myself are planning to go again in June. We will spend 1 week in Florida and 1 week in Jamaica.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what we can do in the week that we are in Florida City. We like going to the beach, theme parks, and places to shop. We may rent a car as well, as no one will be available to drive us around.

Any ideas will be appreciated!!!

Other than visiting the Everglades there is nothing to do in Florida City. It is really just a gas %26amp; go kind of place. You will either have to drive into the Keys or head up to Miami or for theme parks you will have to go to Orlando or Tampa. If you research the Miami forum there a lists of things to do in Miami posted there.

Aren%26#39;t there some factory outlets right at Florida City? And you would be not at all far from the amazing Robert is Here Fruit Stand- which is famous for great milkshakes:

It%26#39;s a don%26#39;t miss! And I love the name!

No theme parks that I know of , but there are some interesting places within an hour or less drive- how about the zoo for starters . Here%26#39;s the website with map- it%26#39;s just off the Turnpike a little north of you:

Jungle Island aka Parrot Jungle is further away, but I think still less than an hour:

A rental car is essential and will greatly expand your horizons.

I%26#39;m sure there are many other ideas- those are just a few that popped into my head- John Pennekamp Park and the glass bottom boat ride is not that far south of you either.

I can%26#39;t believe the words Florida City and boring are used in the same sentence. Just Kidding.

We live in Beautiful Homestead, Florida, right next door, and these are some of the things we do:

Drive up US#1 to SW 136 street and go to the Falls shopping center.Bice( a bar/restaurant in the Falls) has a great happy hour from 3 til 7 every night. 1/2 price drinks and appitizers. Lots of people having big fun

Drive up Old Cutler Road to Coconut Grove for shopping, eating, drinking and people watching fun.

On the way back down Old Cutler Road stop at the Redfish Grill in Matheson Hammock for dinner in a great restaurant on the edge of Biscayne Bay.

Keep going past Coconut Grove up Bayshore Drive and drive out to Key Biscayne for one of the best beaches you will ever see.

If the Miami Heat are playing take Metrorail to downtown and see a game.

Drive 11 miles down Card Sound Road to eat at Alabama Jack%26#39;s, live music on weekends.

Watch the corn, beans and tomatoes grow. OK maybe that is a reach.

Robert is Here and Everglades would be good options, loved both! We found Florida City/Marathon to be a bit unsafe off the main US 1 route. Very scary at night off the main drag, and I have a story about that.

And no one has mentioned Coral Castle? Check with your Google Gods for their website, location and other details.

Sorry, on my previous post I meant we found Florida City/Homestead to be a bit unsafe off the main US 1 route. Ran into crack addicts just after dark, wandering grocery store parking lot.
