Port Orleans Riverside and Ohana character breakfast

We%26#39;ll be visiting in June 17,18, leaving on the 19th. We%26#39;ll be staying at Port Orleans Riverside and then going to the Ohana character breakfast at the Polynesian the next morning (Wednesdsy)at 7:30. Does anyone know how long these breakfasts last? That will be our only day at the Magic Kingdom and I%26#39;m hoping we won%26#39;t be too late getting there. We%26#39;re only going to do the park for 1 day. We%26#39;ll be leaving the next day (Thursday) around late morning/noon.

Also, how is this hotel? I didn%26#39;t make the reservations so I don%26#39;t know anything about it. We stayed at the POP Century last time.

Thanks.

Port Orleans Riverside and Ohana character breakfast

You should be ok at Ohana due to the early seating time. I have had to wait 20-30 minutes past reservation time when I am scheduled later in the morning (9 and 9:30), but have never had to wait with a ressie before 8 am. It usually takes about 45 minutes for all the characters to get around to your table, they also do a childrens parade with maacas and characters about every 45 minutes.

POR is a great resort. Beautiful grounds, I was worried after reading some trip reports, but found out it is a great resort. We had no problems with housekeeping like others have said.

Great! Thanks for the input!

P.O.R. is a wonderful resort, with a nice main pool, several quiet pools, a great food court, lots of recreational activities, and the boat to DTD.

It%26#39;s large, over 2200 rooms, and you may get a building that is a longer walk to the main one, but none are more than 5 minutes away.

My personal preference is the Alligator Bayou section, simply due to it%26#39;s closeness to the main building and the more recently refurbed rooms. However, the mansions side isn%26#39;t bad.

I think you will love P.O.R. I%26#39;ve stayed there three times now and hope to stay there again.

Scenic Drives stay in Clearwater or Go to Sarasota

I will be tagging along on my husband%26#39;s business trip next week. His company has us staying in Clearwater until Friday. We are debating remaining at the same hotel or moving to the Sarasota area.

We plan to go down near Sarasota to the Myakka River State Park.

My husband loves to drive....and drive. Would the Clearwater area and further north have an scenic drives.

Or would Sarasota and driving south be better?

Thanks!

Scenic Drives stay in Clearwater or Go to Sarasota

I think going south is much prettier. The Sarasota coastal area is gorgeous...IMO, Clearwater cannot compare, and north of Clearwater things are pretty congested and there are no nice beaches (if you elect to go north, Tarpon Springs is quaint and interesting, though). In Sarasota, you can shop and dine on St. Armand%26#39;s Circle, visit the Ringling mansion and museaum, and have access to some of the most most beaches in SW Florida. If you want to drive further south, you can go to Ft. Myers and tour the winter homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, and perhaps cross the bridge and check out Sanibel and Captiva Islands...they%26#39;re beautiful.

Scenic Drives stay in Clearwater or Go to Sarasota

In the Clearwater area. The scenic drive would be along Gulf Blvd right along the coast. Say from Clearwater Beach, over to Sand Key, and down Gulf Blvd through the smaller beach communities and St. Pete Beach. On Southern St. Pete Beach, Take the Pinellas Bayway East. From the Bayway you can go to Ft. Desoto Park and drive around this park that is primitive and has great views of the water. This is constantly rated as one of the best beaches in the US. From the park, you can continue East on the Bayway to I-275 South which will take you over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, very high, great view, and into the Sarasota area. This will be a scenic way to get from Clearwater Beach to Sarasota.

Where to stay as couples

Hi I am coming down next weekend with fiance and another couple. We are mid-twenty%26#39;s to thirties. Looking for sun, beach and evening calm bars...so many hotels and no clue where to stay. So many complaints about ';dirty'; rooms. Willing to pay 100 a night any recommendations. My personal request is that we be on the beach!

Where to stay as couples

Do you have any discounts? Military, government, AAA, AARP? The Best Western Aku Tiki Inn (the south end of Daytona actually Port Orange), has a restaurant/bar attached called Trader%26#39;s, if you stay there, there is a manager%26#39;s happy hour each evening with free drinks with room key. The Aku Tiki Inn is a beautiful property, with pool, on the beach. Their rates are good if you have discounts. If you drink, and figure in the cost of an hour of free drinks for four, it might be worth the extra to stay there.

Where to stay as couples

The LaPlaya Resort 2500 N Atlantic has a large pool, nice deck, right on the ocean, hot tubs and tiki bar. Tourist season has not really started yet so I don%26#39;t know if a band will be at the Tiki Bar or not. When we are there in June the tiki bar is a calm but fun time. If people get too rowdy security gives them a free escort, LOL. If you get an ocean view as opposed to an oceanfront it might be as low as 100 dollars since it is off season. We have been staying there for years and like it a lot. It is beginning to show it%26#39;s age but the rooms and staff are nice and they are continually renovating it as needed. An outdoor shopping center is directly across the street. Many good motels and condos in Daytona Beach Try pulling up some of their websites. you can%26#39;t always rely on what reviews say but I know it is hard when you have not been to one. Have a wonderful time.

punz

Most resorts are directly on the beach with either oceanview or oceanfront rooms. Rates are reasonable this time of year.

If you want to walk to major things, like Ocean Walk Shoppes, movies, variety of restaurants, entertainment, etc. you should stay near Main Street, which would be approximately 300 N. Atlantic to 300 S. Atlantic. If you want to drive then the sky is the limit as to north or south areas.

  • How in the world do you plan all table service meals?

We are going to Disney in Sept. I am having a hard time trying to plan the meals. We hare a 5 yr old and 9 yr old. Those of you with small kids know it is not always the easiest thing to plan so far in advance. I%26#39;m not sure if we will stay all day in the park, go back to the hotel during the day or have to leave the parks early. So how do you plan every meal? Are there any table service restaurants that do not require advanced reservations? What if we are at the park and decide we want to sit down and eat? Or we just out of luck?

It just seems a little difficult to me to know exactly where and when we are going to eat. I know lots of you have been multiple times and have taken advantage of the free dining.....any suggestions? It is such a great deal-I don%26#39;t want to drive myself crazy trying to figure it out.

How in the world do you plan all table service meals?

I have a 7-year old and I just made a reservation for a character breakfast. You could do that. Are you using their meal plan? I don%26#39;t have the meal plan that Disney sells, but I know they asked me when I made the reservation, so you must be able to use meal plans for character breakfasts. Also I looked into the luau at the Polynesian and saw you can use the meal plan for that as well. So maybe use it for some special meals like that and then just do whatever for the rest. If you%26#39;re in the park there are plenty of counter service restaurants with tables, but probably if you want table service you%26#39;ll need reservations.

How in the world do you plan all table service meals?

definatly keep the dining plan..it saves us a bundle. And with the sit down dinners,we always try to set them a bit earlier around 5 ,that way you are not too pooped.Or some nights we plan them later,so we can go back to the room to freshen up first. You can also use them at lunch if that particular rest. is open for lunch.

well unfortunately since its such a great deal, its hard to pass up, but it is definitely a different type of trip, lots of plannning, lots of living by a schedule. We went last time, 2 yrs ago, with the dining plan, loved it, but am skipping it this time around.

So, try to plan out an itinerary, where you think you will be most days. It will be hot, so most likely you will be at resorts early in day, and late in day, you should plan to be back at resort by the pool midday.

so, plan a nice character breakfast one of the mornings, plan Chef MIckeys one night that you will be near a monorail, like M.K. Your kids will love it here. Plan Coral Reef at Epcot, kids will love the fish! Cape may (breakfast or dinner) is really nice at Beach Club, near epcot resort. There is a great breakfast at A.k, used to be called donaldsaurus, i would plan that the day at A.K. At mgm, maybe mama mel or hollywood and vine for dinner. At m.k, people recommend Liberty town, i%26#39;ve never been, oh, go to Crystal Palace, its suppose to be great with good characters.

What i would do is reserve a couple places in case your at a different park, you can always cancel, that would be the right thing to do. But definitely make ressies, as the nice popular places i%26#39;ve mentioned will be sold out soon and when your there.

    good luck

We are going in August and have never had the dining plan before when we travelled to disney. We were there last May with my son%26#39;s choir. Many of the kids liked the hollywood and vines for the fantasmic guaranteed seating but at dinner there is no characters. The other place was the biergarten which was like dinner and a small show. I am also feeling very challenged with booking all the meals.

We%26#39;ve always gone to the parks from opening to closing. Kids were 3 %26amp; 9. Never taken a break mid day. Florida is too far away to hang out at the hotel. I can do that at home. The kids do not get cranky, they are excellent travelers. (I know not all kids are like that though.) I just assign each day a specific park. We%26#39;re going to do them all anyway, doesn%26#39;t matter what order they%26#39;re in.

After I plan WHERE we%26#39;ll be, then I plan where we want to eat. We have our favorite places. So I just fill in the blanks.

At MK, Crystal Palace %26amp; the Castle are musts. We%26#39;ll be there 2 days so, one for each night.

At MGM, we have 2 favorites, but it%26#39;ll only take one day to do the park. So, our table services will be lunch %26amp; supper.

I fill in the gaps with character breakfasts, etc. Even with the basic dining plan, there will be a couple of table service places we%26#39;ll have to pay for.

Some days, we%26#39;ll do a counter service breakfast or lunch. The only part of the day that will actually be on a schedule is the table service meal. The rest will be at our leisure.

If you going during a busy time of year, reservations are a must for table service places. If not, then you%26#39;ll either not be able to get in, or you%26#39;ll have to wait to eat at 9:30 pm ! There are plenty of counter service places if you just want to wing it. I would not give up that dining plan, especially if it%26#39;s free ! Your meals will really add up, food is expensive at Disney.

Unfortunately, like a previous poster said you have to make reservations for the table service or you will be eating a very late meal.

I also found it difficult to plan so far ahead. I choose sit down restaurants that were located in a certain park or at an adjacent hotel then tried my best to be sure we were at that park on that day.

I used a few table services for the character meals and did the breakfast so it didn%26#39;t really matter our day%26#39;s plan. We would just to wherever we wanted to go after eating.

And I cancelled some of my reservations after calling guest services in the morning to see what else was available that would better fit our plans.

    Good Luck!

I just finished planning a trip for October - this morning was the day to make reservations for the last day of our trip. We%26#39;ve got a 5 and a 9 year old.

Here%26#39;s what I did: I wrote down the hours of the parks on the days we%26#39;ll be there, also noting EMH and special events (like Mickey%26#39;s Not So Scary Halloween Party.) Also looked at touringplans.com for the days to avoid certain parks, and the crowd level for the days we%26#39;ll be there.

We always like our first Disney park moment to be arrival at the Magic Kingdom (I know others feel strongly this is not a good idea - but it works for us). Since I knew the first full day of our trip would be in MK, I then looked at the other days, and sorted out when it would be best to go where. I built in a ';down'; day, also, with the pool and Downtown Disney on our list.

Then, once I knew what days we%26#39;d be in which parks, I sorted out where to eat.

Here%26#39;s what I ended up with:

Day 1: arrival MCO in late afternoon. Dinner at House of Blues in Downtown Disney.

Day 2: MK. Lunch at Crystal Palace at 11:30. We%26#39;ll be going back later in the trip, and starting early with EMH, so I%26#39;m fairly certain after the 3 pm parade, we%26#39;ll head back to the hotel. I made reservations for dinner at 8 pm at Raglan Road, Downtown Disney.

Day 3: We%26#39;re going to Animal Kingdom. Counter service lunch. We%26#39;ll head back to the hotel before the 4 o%26#39;clock parade. So, I made reservations at Akersus with the Princesses at 6:30. Afterwards, we%26#39;ll watch IllumiNations.

Day 4: We%26#39;ll spend this in Hollywood Studios. Again, early start with EMH. We%26#39;ll be ready for a break by 11:30, so I made reservations then for Sci-Fi Dine In. Then, we have the latest reservation for Hollywood and Vine%26#39;s Fantasmic package at 5:20 pm.

Day 5: This is our next to last day and our ';down'; day, and since we won%26#39;t be using any park admissions, I made dinner reservations at Chef Mickey%26#39;s for 7:30 pm.

Day 6: Finishing strong! My husband will take our son to Epcot in the morning (big Test Track fan!) Our daughter has an appointment at Bibbidy Bobbidy Boutique in MK for 10:40. We%26#39;ll all have lunch at Cinderella%26#39;s Table (reservations at 12:15). We%26#39;ll all spend the afternoon in Epcot. We have dinner reservations at the Beir Garten at 6:15. Then, it%26#39;s back to the MK for Mickey%26#39;s Not So SCary Halloween Party.

Day 7: Exhausted, but happy, we fly home!

It was overwhelming when I first tried working it out - I felt for a long time like it as a jigsaw puzzle and none of the pieces fit, but I just kept moving stuff around until I had a plan that ';felt'; right to me.

Good luck, and hope this helps, at least a little.

It also depends on when you are going. You mentioned Sept, which is during the free dining plan promotion. During that, its almost a requirement to pre-book table service meals. At other times of the year, except for character dining and a few really popular places, you can get same day ressies easily although not always for peak times.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions...really a big help.

I%26amp;M%26#39;sMom-thanks so much. Our kids are the same age and we are staying about the same about of time so I appreciate the help. My daughter also has a reservation at the boutique-I did make a reservation for lunch at the castle after her makeover as well.

I%26#39;m going to sit down and try to make a schedule. Maybe once I start, it will be easier to fit the pieces together. One day at a time and maybe it won%26#39;t be so overwhelming :-)

O.K. first of all. If you are going in September during free dining I would hop on the booking or reservations. We as well are going in Sept. I made my revs the same day I booked. However, I called a yesterday to see if I could change a couple times and most the good time slots and the popular restaurants are already taken.

It was no small feet to plan the meals. I have a 7 and 4 year old. I did many things already mentioned like looking up the best days on touringplans. I also printed out a schedule of fireworks and parades at wdwinfo.com to make sure I didn%26#39;t schedule a meal during or too close to a parade or show we plan to attend. We personally prefer only one park a day. Park hopping is too exhausting for us. We even find it time consuming a exhausting to book dinner at hotels that are not in the parks. Scheduling dinner in a completely different location takes away a lot of your time and energy. We did schedule one out of park dinner at the Hoop de Doo the night we arrive. And as mentioned earlier it is a good idea to make backup reservations because you just never know exactly how your schedule will be.

Last year we ended up missing our reservation at 50%26#39;s diner because we were all hot and tired. So, in order to get our meal that evening we had to book at Concourse Steakhouse (not real popular) late at night and travel what seemed like forever for a less than exciting meal. We actually paid for our dining plan last year so we weren%26#39;t willing to give it up.

We are going for 11 days this time so we plan to spend just over a half day at the park each day. I have sketched in the plans according to whether or not we are viewing evening fireworks and booked accordingly (dinner or lunch). While everything may look good on paper it will never turn out quite as perfect. However, the better planned and thought through, the smoother it should be!! Happy Planning.

Where in St Augustine to get Auto repairs

I Know this is going to sound crazy but,

With many more traveler coming to this Great City by car ( since Skybus bit the dust) I thought it might be a good topic.

I did not see any info on the search so here are the questions

    Where to locals go to get a good honest car repair ? You know things that might happen on a driving trip like;

    1) Brakes are making sounds

    2) Need some tires

    3) Maybe a tune up to get better gas mileage!

    4) Belts

Simple things like this that could make a great vacation a horror story

So whats the scoop locals I know everyone has a car and they have had some sort of repairs to it!

Where in St Augustine to get Auto repairs

Good question! I am sure the locals have more information, but I had great service at the place on San Marco Street next to The Cozy Inn Motel. (across from their suites)

I am sorry I don%26#39;t have the name of the repair shop.

We had a power failure with our minivan (an electronic sensor had died) and they had us back on the road in NO time! They provided towing as well. They didn%26#39;t overcharge and worked quickly.

Where in St Augustine to get Auto repairs

Nickie, you are probably refering to Jacalone and sons(not mob related). I have had service there and have had good treatment. In answer to the original post, I take brake problems to a brake shop, tire problems to a tire shop, etc. Any other problems, I would call AAA if your a member. If not, check with your hotelier, and they can usually point you in the right direction.

I usually either take it to good year service or wallmart for tire ,oil and filter change for breaks there is a brake service nearby 207 on usi but there is car service jacklon%26#39;s and sons nearby downtown also for breaks and tires.

If u are staying on the island there is brake service oil and filter change nearby ocean trace road i think there is another car service on 6th street or 7th.

We use St. Augustine Auto Service, a good honest shop and send my employees here too. He fixes all kinds of cars (ours is a toyota). He is a NAPA shop.

    904-829-6347: 1685 U.S. 1 So. in the K-Mart shopping center on U.S. 1. I highly recommend his work.

The repair shop across from the cozy inn is RICHBOURG CERTIFIED AUTO REPAIR. They are good people provide good service at a reasonible price. They also have towing. JACALONE%26#39;S is a block north of the cozy inn. They are also good people that provide good service and have towing. I would recommend both.

I have used Atlantic Auto on the island ever since I moved here. They have always done a good job with my car and I%26#39;ve never had to take my car back because something was not fixed. They are on Anastasia Island on Hwy 312 going east just past the intersection with A1A...

  • Dining and Libations at St. A Beach

I%26#39;m staying in St. Augustine Beach at a condo near the city pier. I%26#39;m curious what the bars/restaurants are like close to the pier. I know there are probably some great options in the town near the fort and their downtown but I was unsure about near where I%26#39;m staying. I%26#39;m not looking for Dukes at Waikiki but something other than a ';neighborhood'; Applebees. I saw a blip about a place called Pelican Pub. I liked the look of it. Are there a couple places like that or should I expect to ride over to the town to for a draught beer with some locals?

Dining and Libations at St. A Beach

well if u are in St.Augustine Beach , downtown st aug is a must visit area so u will have best of both worlds :) There are bars and restaurants near pier one is sunset grille its a bar and restaurant so does panama hatties. There is also beachcomber restaurant on A street and mango mangos is on A street as well. Also St.Augustine Beach doesn%26#39;t have a downtown so our only downtown is St.Augustine as well. Also you can easily go to town which is 6 minutes from where you are

    Mehmet

Dining and Libations at St. A Beach

    smashing mehmet,

what about pelican pub? Anything for it? Anything against it?

Pelican Pub is on a1a in a strip mall. It is mostly a local place with lots of darts and pool tables. Decent beer prices with a happy hour every day 11:00-7:00 am. Not a bad little place, but not really ';beachy'; if that is what your looking for.

Hi LivesinMo i don%26#39;t know anything about pelican pub on the plaza aia but i heard some locals goes there for happy hour not really a beachy place since its on aia . Beachcomber is the only restaurant bar is on the beach.

Thanks Lobbybobby for the pelicanpub info i appreciate it :)

    Mehmet

You may be able to drive to Sunset Grill - not bad fare (not on the beach, however, but across the street.) Also F.A. Cafe is okay. Right on the beach that you can walk to, not by the pier, sorry. You can also drive (not far) to Beachcomer - good beachy place and going towards town (not on the beach) but still on the Island is Gypsy Cab. Good food - large portions - don%26#39;t need appetizers with the meals - too much food, but then you can take back to your condo and heat up for dinner!

What do the locals have to say about Jack%26#39;s on the beach?

Jacks bbq is a nice place as well they have live music on weekends and wednesday night i believe they play 80s . Not my kinda place it is a crowded area

    Mehmet

where is Jack%26#39;s On The Beach???

On A Street, across from The Pit.

norht of the hampton inn on a1a is a great restaurant bar , good music upper deck for watching the ocean roll in

jamaican or convention center embassy suite orlando

    hello,

I need help with the decision to book either jamaican or convention center embassy suites in orlando for conference. We%26#39;ll be traveling with 2 kids under 5. Please help!

which one of these two are better in terms of rooms, transportation to theme park? The price is not matter because I%26#39;ll book the room using points. they%26#39;re both the same points.

    thank you very much.

any answer will be very much appreciated.

jamaican or convention center embassy suite orlando

I can%26#39;t speak for the Embassy Suites on Jamaican Dr. but I did stay at the convention center one and LOVED everything about it! It has become my hotel of choice for Orlando (Thus far anyway.)

The breakfast and nightly reception is a great added bonus! They have some park shuttles as well as an I Trolley stop right in front of the hotel.

There was a little arcade the kids would enjoy, along with an indoor and outdoor pool. It is also located near a lot of good restaurants and other entertainment. You can walk to Wonderworks and quite a few mini golf places as well.

I did a review of it on here that you can check out - I%26#39;d link it but it won%26#39;t let me lol

    Hope this helps! :)

Convention Centre - the location is much better and when we stayed there it was fantastic :o)
