silly tourists

2 years ago me and the husband went to orlando, stayed on i drive one day we decided we would go to downtown orlando,we got on the lynx bus after a while we wondered why we seemed to be the only tourists on the bus,we stuck out like sore thumbs had our bum bags on.i started getting worried when we saw drunks hanging out at bus shelters the area the bus went was ithink called orange grove it looked like the ghetto.when we got off the bus at downtown we asked someone if it was safe,he said go back to i drive you will be safer so back on the bus same journey back but by then we were scared stiff,we did laugh when we got back to the hotel, and it was a great story to tell the kids when we got home.

Cab91,

I remember my brother telling me something similar when he went to Orlando. They got on a bus which took them to what looked like a ghetto, with the bus driver stopping at a shack of a house, where he picked up some fried chicken, before continuing on the journey!!

silly tourists

i am pleased somebody beside us was a silly tourist

No 8 bus isn%26#39;t the most pleasant ride once it has left the tourist areas. When I go to or via DownTown, I take an express - 38 if the timing is right, or otherwise head off down to Sea World area and then take a 50.

As for DownTown.........not much reason to go there IMO.

LYNX is not really designed to transport tourists so I%26#39;m not surprised at your less than wonderful experience. Stick to the shuttle buses or taxis if you aren%26#39;t going to drive.

We had the exact same experience coming back from the courthouse in Downtown Orlando(we were getting our marriage licence) we got the Number 8 bus back to I Drive and it went through every ghetto and trailer park and also some really nice areas it took 2 hours and boy were we nervous but the driver kept us at ease by ensuring us that the entire bus is covered by CCTV and that it is very rare for robberies etc ON the buses but he strongly advised us NOT to get off until we got to I Drive But yes it was an experience I look back and have a chuckle at and I%26#39;m glad we did it as we actually saw the real Orlando.

Cheers ;-) Wullie

or the i-trolley.....

Disfaninnyc - disagree about your advice to stick to shuttles or taxis. we always use Lynx buses to go from Disney to I drive - these are safe. It%26#39;s not the bus that%26#39;s the problem but the areas outside the tourist areas. There are no-go areas in most cities and tourist destinations - the best advice is to do your research before you leave home.
