Beach Flag Safety System - Should Be a Sticky

Here we are at the beginning of the 2008 tourist season, and again, I am repeating my warnings about our beach flag safety system

This past few days there have been 17 rescues from the waters because people are not paying attention or simply ignoring our beach flag safety system, so here goes again -

I know people who frequently visit this site think I preach about our flag safely system at the beach. WELL I AM PREACHING AGAIN!

Please PAY ATTENTION to the flag system The water may look smooth as glass, but the rip tides could be fierce.

Red Flag - DANGER

Yellow Flag - CAUTION

Green Flag - Safe to Swim

Purple Flag - Marine Pests Present (Jelly Fish etc)

Double Red Flag - Water is Closed.

Also, try to be close to a life guard. Destin provides life guards at the public beach accesses. Some of the resorts provide life guards, many do not.

NOTE - 99% OF THE DROWNINGS HERE ARE NOT LOCALS, THEY ARE TOURIST, LOCALS PAY ATTENTION AND RESPECT THE FLAG SYSTEM. WE DON%26#39;T GO INTO THE WATER WHEN WARNED!

Please pay attention and be safe. And keep bumping this thread up.

Thank you and have a great vacation.

Beach Flag Safety System - Should Be a Sticky

yeah, this should be a sticky but TA is unresponsive. Maybe just keep bumping it?

Beach Flag Safety System - Should Be a Sticky

Yes, let%26#39;s just keep bumping it. I don%26#39;t know why they are non- responsive. Every place down here has brochures, flyers, all condos have the information. It is for the safely of the tourist and when there are 17 rescues in the waters here in 2 days,... duhhhhh.

Bump

Double Red Flags Today. People do not be stupid. Double red flags - WATER IS CLOSED.

8-9 ft waves.

This is unusually high for this area, but again,

PLEASE - Do not be stupid PAY ATTENTION to the beach safety flag system.

Thank you for the information. I%26#39;ve printed it and taking it with me for our May 10th vacation. It will be our first trip to Destin and are so looking forward to it.

What, if anything, should we bring in case of a jelly fish sting?

I%26#39;ve been reading posts on Trip Advisor for years and learned so much. I decided it was time I signed up.

sjs272- Type ';jelly fish sting'; into the search box at top left; quite a bit of info there.

sis -for jellyfish sting,,,2 shots of tequila, lemon, salt,,,,,if your kids get stung, hug them and repeat above!

Thanks for the hint, John. In case anyone else was wondering, white vinegar works for jelly fish stings.

But I think 2Sandy%26#39;s suggestion works too!

Bump, Bump. Will be in the Destin/Fort Walton Beach area May19-24 and will be sure to honor the flag system. No sense in ruining our vacation by attempting to drown! :)

White Vinegar. Put vinegar on the sting. Most of the lifeguard stations have it too, but it wouldn%26#39;t hurt to have a little spray bottle of your own in your beach bag.
