Hi! I have read many of the posted messages from earlier forums. I still have a few questions:
In May is there a danger of stinging jelly-fish, or anything else I don%26#39;t know about, at St. Augustine or Vilano Beaches?
Even though we can park on the beaches, is it still at a cost?
One thing I forgot to research...what is the under-toe? When?
Thanks much!

After being in the water several 1000 times in Vilano and North Beach area I can tell you there is a under toe in these areas I have seen a few jelly fish not very many at certain times of the yr but, never had a problem.
Murat can fill you in about ST Aug Beach he lives there.
The undertow( not a expert here I think is caused by the sandbars)is bad at times at North Beach has no life Guards I have been caught in them several times
Be careful A hint.. swim parallel to the beach till you get out of it do not try to fight it and swim in the ocean will win. I am not sure of the deaths some local can give you that info

Thank you! I also realized I forgot to ask about the bugs...when I%26#39;m in my aunt%26#39;s back yard, will I be fighting mosquitos, etc like in Ohio? Can I take a book out and read in the evening is what I%26#39;m really asking!
I don%26#39;t plan on swimming much. Is is true if I don%26#39;t go in above my knees I won%26#39;t have to worry about undertoe?
I%26#39;d hate to have to write home and tell my parents I%26#39;m dead!
Knee deep I am sure you will be safe. Also there are what is called sand knats now on the beach they seem not so bad... to me its when you get a little further away they seem to get worse. They are not that bad!.
Something I did notice when I was there a few months ago in Vilano the seagulls have been fed so much they swarm ... they want free food do you blame them%26gt;? But, you can just scare them and they fly away but, they come back no big deal or you can feed them.
Its a shame for you skybust stopped you could have driven to Columbus and flown cheap..... its bad for all of us ! Now I have to drive from NC
There are all kinds of things out there in the ocean but they don%26#39;t bite us or sting us very often. I%26#39;ve only been stung once in 19 years, and never bitten.
Mosquitoes are more numerous in some seasons than in others. You don%26#39;t find them right on the beach because the wind blows them inland a LITTLE ways (not far though). Your auntie%26#39;s back yard is probably too far from the immediate beach area to be mosquito free, and the more vegetation she has the more likely there will be mosquitoes lurking there.
It%26#39;s an underTOW because it tows you out.
You can most likely find free beach parking.
May is a great time to come! Sorry Airbus is out of business.
You%26#39;ll enjoy your visit!

Bring the gel type insect repellent for the No-see-ums. They are the worst!! the regular OFF spray does not work for them, but the gel will catch them in its stickiness. Yes, mossies are out in full force now, use repellent, you will be fine.
At surfside on Vilano Beach there is free parking practically on the the beach. Beware the drop off at Vilano Beach, just walk slowly out as it does drop off from your thighs to your chest in just one step. As anywhere in the ocean, beware the under tow and if you don%26#39;t know how to swim in it, just wade. It is dangerous and there are no lifeguards at Vilano Beach. Only saw jelly fish once at beaches here. Enjoy!
