Twins Spring Training

I%26#39;m doing preliminary planning for a Spring Break trip in 2009. We will definately include a Spring training baseball game for the Minnesota Twins. Where is the most convenient place to stay? Do any hotels provide shuttle service to and from the baseball stadium?

You will need to research the difference between Fort Myers (Twins and Red Sox baseball) and Fort Myers Beach. Fort Myers Beach is quite a distance from Hammond Stadium, but worth the drive if you are only going to one or two games and plan on spending most of your time on the beach. I do not know of any shuttles to the park. If your main activity for the trip is baseball, I would stay in Fort Myers itself. Look at the Fairfield Inn or the Winstar Inn as two options close to the stadium.

We%26#39;ve stayed on the beach the last three years (Outrigger) and took in one game each year. We drove south thru Bonita to aviod Times Square traffic on FMB and it is a good 30-40 minute drive. The Twins complex is awesome, not a bad seat in the place. Last year we stopped at the stadium about 10 AM before our flight home. Walked right down to the field to watch practice. Cuddyer, Redmond, Tom Kelly all about 10 ft away.

Thanks for the quick reply.

We plan to spend most of our vacation at the beach and go to 1 or 2 Twins games, so I thought it might be good to stay in Fort Myers 1 or 2 nights and the rest of the time on FMB as it sounded like the traffic back and forth was horrific. But maybe that%26#39;s not such a good idea. Thoughts?

Also, what can you tell me about the Outrigger as it%26#39;s one of the hotels on my short list. We have 2 teenagers, but the rooms look big enough for 4. I%26#39;m most intrigued with the Tiki bar as it gets lots of press and my husband and I would surely enjoy some refreshments by the pool while kids are swimming or in the evening after we return from dinner. I was a bit concerned with overall quality of hotel, although we are not picky - just want it to be clean. Also, we would be interested in going out to dinner several evenings and it doesn%26#39;t sound like this is walking distance to Times Square. The other lodging choice we%26#39;re looking at is Diamondhead Beach Resort. Any info you can provide would be great!

My favorite Tikki bar is at the Outrigger. We go about twice a month. Friday from about 5 to 8 Smokin%26#39; Bill performs. Honestly one of the best guitarists around. He plays all styles of music.

The bartenders are great. We love this place.

I have lots of opinions on Outrigger but I tend to get kind of lengthy. Maybe I will send you a direct note, keep an eye on your orange ';Welcome'; in the upper right corner of the page.
