digital cameras - batterys

Hi

This question is aimed at those who regularly use digital cameras - XR if you are about you will definately be able to answer this one!

My children both have digital cameras, they will need regular batteries (not a rechargable pack). When my daughter tried her camera out at Christmas she only took about 5 pictures and the batteries died, when I took them out they were red hot.

Does anyone know why this was? Is there are particular type of battery that digital cameras need?

Many thanks

I think you need to look at Lithium batteries which are designed for high use, and digit cameras.

We use Energizer Ultimate Lithium Digital Battieries. They allow you to take upto 630 photos. Just got them from the Supermarket. It might not have been the batteries that made the cmera hot. Our camera did the same thing(hot) it froze up after it got slightly wet

You need to use Lithium batteries, I%26#39;m surprised that the camera even worked using regular batteries.

Also, and this is not as obvious as it sounds, make sure they were not in backwards. Some cameras will work for a few shots that way. If it happens again tho, take the camera back immediately, there%26#39;s probably a short and with lithium batteries thats an actual fire risk.

Ordinary batteries take about 10 pictures on a digital and then die out.

I am curious why does the cameras not take rechargeable.

If you are only getting 10 pictures, you have another issue. On my Canon Powershot, I get around 100-250 shots on standard batteries (depends on how much flash and zooming I do), and lithium between 300-750.

And there are rechargeable akalines that will work with any camera that takes standard batteries.

My Powershot as above takes about 100 photos. i just have normal AA rechargables but they are 2000+. We also have two chargers that will work in US and will trickle charge overnight

when I said not rechargable I meant the camera does not take a rechargable battery pack, only standard batterys, I know you can get standard batteries that are rechargable - did that make any sense????

I will have a play around with it before we go, make sure it doesnt blow up! lol

Thanks for your replies, I will look at the lithium batteries!
