Best destination for 1 night

I have seen some similar topics on this posted here, but not exactly what I have in mind-

My husband and I will have a 1 night layover in Miami on our way down to the Caribbean (this seems to happen a lot). I think I will book a hotel near the airport to avoid traveling much in the morning, but I would like to know the best spot to take a taxi to for the evening (we get in at 8PM)for the best little experience of Miami! I%26#39;m thinking near the beach, the nightlife, for a decent dinner or just drinks. Any suggestions? Thanks very much-

Certainly South Beach is the quintessential Miami experience, esp. so as it runs all night %26amp; you%26#39;ll be getting in very late. You have to clear customs, get your baggage %26amp; check into your hotel before a half hour cab ride to the Beach -- so figure 11PM before you get there. And it%26#39;s going to be about a $40.00 cab ride each way from the airport area.
