GOing to Fort Lauderdale and just wondering where we should stay? GOing for 2 days.
Is it far from the beach to downtown? Is it nice beaches there? Best places to shop?
Have to say I really don%26#39;t know where to stay.
We looking for some nice shopping, but the same time the possibilities to relax on the beach... Looking for a upscale hotel. thanks for helping me out.
which area to stay in?Ft. Lauderdale is like many cities in the US that no longer really have Downtown area such as you may be familiar with. There is no Downtown shopping area at all here- all the shopping is pretty much in area malls. What little Downtown we have houses government buildings and offices.
I think the best hotel for you might be the Gallery One Doubletree on Sunrise Blvd.. It is a lovely all suite hotel and is right on our Intracoastal Waterway where our famous Water Taxi stops( the hotel is one of the 15 or so stops)
About a block west of the hotel is our most upscale Mall, Galleria that has everything from large department stores, to many well known chain stores, smaller boutiques and many restaurants.
The beach is an easy two-three block walk in the other direction over the bridge.
So it seems to me you would be able to do it all from there - though I would suggest you rent a car for one day and go out to Sawgrass Mills ,a massive outlet mall west of town where your money will really stretch with the current exchange rate. Many visitors from Europe buy one or more new pieces of luggage when they go there when they see how many bargains there are on clothing, shoes, and all kinds of electronics etc. The taxi fare to get there would be high, so one day of a car rental would be the best possibility- and if you wished you could visit a casino on your way back.
Or, another possibility for one evening is our Restaurant Row on Las Olas Blvd, which is also on the Water Taxi route.
