Are Royal Reds in Season in June?

Will be in KW Thursday. Will I be able to find Royal Reds, or are they out of season? Where%26#39;s the best place to get them...and what the average price?

Are Royal Reds in Season in June?

Peak season for them is late summer through the fall but they are available year round.

Best place to get them is at The Conch Republic. You can also get them at the Waterfront Market when available.

Just had them yesterday at the Conch Farm and they were wonderful.

Be sure to ask for them at Conch Republic even though you don%26#39;t see them on the menu - they were wonderful last week!

You can get them year round. Just about any shrimp you get are fronzen, anywhere, so it really doesn%26#39;t matter.

Just curious....what is it about the royal red%26#39;s that everyone loves so much? Is it the seasoning? Is it just Old Bay they use? I hope noone gets mad but...I had them 2 weeks ago at Conch Republic and they were good, but..I like the pinks better. I think I like them chilled. Do they only serve the Red%26#39;s warm or can you order them chilled?

okay, forgive me for being ignorant here, but what the heck is a royal red? Is it a type of shrimp? When I first read about them, I thought it was a drink!

I had royal reds at Conch Republic last Tuesday night (indeed they were nice sized, red toned, steamed shrimp with Old Bay or similiar seasonings). I thought they were good steamed shrimp but I was more impressed by my husband%26#39;s huge and delicious fried shrimp at the Conch Republic. I think they were around $13 for a half pound-but I was drinking so that # may be off!

We also tried conch fritters there, to me they were pretty much a hushpuppy with extra stuff in them but if they fry it, we will come!

Here is a it of info about them taken from foodreference.com.

Shrimp Shack on Stock Island has great Royal Reds too.

';Florida royal reds with their robust, deep red color and soft, delicate texture have a unique taste that you won%26#39;t find in any other shrimp. Royal Reds are frozen onboard the ships and contain more salt than other shrimp so do not add salt to the water when cooking. When simmered, the royal red stock is excellent for creating colorful, delicious sauces. Royal red shrimp are harvested in the deep Atlantic waters off the coast of St. Augustine with peak season in late summer through fall. They prefer a specific temperature zone that is usually found around 2400 feet deep that can be 40-60 miles out from shore making their harvesting more difficult than other species and contributes to the occasional limited availability of the royal reds. Both brown and royal red shrimp can be used interchangeably in any shrimp recipe.';
