highway 27

while i am in Orlando in august i plan to visit someone who is staying in Weston, Fort Lauderdale. I was wondering if it would be ok to drive straight down the 27 as it goes right past Weston or still take the Florida turnpike, the 27 would be a shorter drive but not sure if it would be the best...

thanks

Yes its not a bad route to drive. There is quite a few traffic light junctions you will encounter as you go through the various towns a villages. Which you would not encounter on the Turnpike road, but then you wont be paying toll charges either.

It is shorter, and a more leisurely drive. And there are plenty of places to stop for drinks and refreshment.

And less traffic , but still busy in a few places .

But it will over all take a bit longer

It will take longer, but it is good if you%26#39;d like to see other parts of Florida.........the more rural parts. Plus you won%26#39;t have to pay the toll for the Turnpike........

It%26#39;s true that there%26#39;s towns on 27 but we%26#39;d NEVER take 27 if we did%26#39;t have to. We%26#39;d also rather drive farther to avoid tons of traffic and stoplights though because that%26#39;s more relaxing for us. It%26#39;s just a pet peeve. There%26#39;s also a LOT of truck traffic on 27.

One of the problems with the turnpike road is it is just miles of boa ring featureless road. And everyone on it driving like crazy. Maybe when gas prices reach $5;00 a gallon by the end of the year people will slow down a bit to a more leisurely pace and get more miles for their money

I would recommend you try this route I fined it a pleasure to drive.

The poster above sounds like one of these impatient, red light runners / foot to the floor drivers who weave in and out the traffic lanes , leaving the rest of us to guess what hes doing cos he does not us his winkers either.

And you sound like one of those drivng 10 mph below the speed limit blocking traffic as you%26#39;re in your own little world looking at everything except where you%26#39;re going.

I%26#39;d take the turnpike.

thanks for the advice guys...

yeah i think the turnpike although more miles is the best option

If I hold traffic up by staying within the speed limit I do the traveling public a great service.

They dont collect speeding fines. And they dont commit any criminal offence by speeding. And they stand a good chance of being able to stop on a yellow light, instead of charging across and hitting someone broadside. Something your countrymen need to learn badly. And at 60 or 70 mph + almost certainly killing them

Some thing that would prevent me visiting the US at any future date.

Please do not even consider taking '; Bloody 27'; as its known in that area. There are ridiculous driving conditions and speed limits in this area are too high in areas of high residency. Believe me I know. My daughter was killed here on January 3 while sitting at a stoplight, 2 minutes from her home when a tractor trailer ran over top of her and ten other cars traveling at 65 miles per hour!!

Do yourself a favor....avoid bloody 27

Please avoid bloody 27 at all costs. It gets its nickname from area residents because of the large number of accidents and fatalities that occur here. Speed limits too high in residential areas!! Believe me I know. I lost my daughter in an accident there in January.

Avoid bloody 27!!
