American Airlines Vacations / WDW Packages Warning

We booked the Free Disney Dining w/ the Magic Your Way tickets with American Airlines Vacations several weeks ago. They came back to us well over a week after booking and demanded an additioanl $830. I spoke to several AA CS agents and supervisors. They all admitted the package details were ';misleading';, and this ';happens all the time with this package';, but that it was ';Disney%26#39;s rules'; and they could do ';nothing'; about the situation. We had to either pay the extortion or cancel our trip (';luckily'; we could cancel for no penalty).

I called Disney out of desperation to see if they could help. Disney advised that 3rd party providers sell the vacations then book w/ Disney. If the particular room/package is no longer available when the 3rd party reserves with Disney, the 3rd party provider frequently passes the additioanl ';charge'; on to the customer (basically instead of getting a package rate you pay for every piece to create the same amenities as the special package rate - you get the package, but not the discount). Disney is only able to help out on reservations made directly with them.

I had heard about this happening to people, but I thought American Airlines would be more reputable... I was able to get 10% taken off the vacation price, but it still left a bad taste in my mouth. I was pretty upset that I had confirmation of my paid in full vacation along with the package details and they still forced me to pay additional money. We paid it b/c at this point my son had been told we were going and it wasn%26#39;t fair to him to cancel. It just really seems shady to me and I expected better from American.

A few days after all this happened, they announced the new charge for the first checked bag. I assume their financial issues are another reason they charged us an additional fee for our ';booked and paid in full vacation.';
