Hi i have just booked a holiday and have been given a free hire car as part of the deal, the only problem is the travel agent say it comes with insurance cover, but asked me if i wanted to upgrade to include CDW and local taxes etc, but they informed me thta would be additional cost of 拢360.00.
Obviously i thought that was disgraceful, they have said that i can pay the taxes when i get to florida.
Do i need this CDW, also would it be cheaper for me to pay when i get over there. any suggestions would be great.
Car Hire
I%26#39;m afraid you have discovered what many of us have known for many years - the ';free car hire'; is a complete and total con and I would avoid any travel company that offered it. It is a disgrace and a blot on the travel industry that people can still be taken in by this.
Basically, you have only the minimum third party insurance required by Florida law, and this is pratically useless. You do need the extras, some of which, like local taxes, you cannot avoid anyway, for peace of mind. Pay everything in the UK and do not take any extras in the US, however persuasive the sales chat. In any event, if you refuse CDW, you will have to lerave a large deposit with the car hire company.
Tell your travel company that you consider the free car hire to be grossly misleading and tell them you will not deal with them again.
Car Hire
We%26#39;re from Canada, and have always booked our car online. Before we leave, we get a letter from our car insurance temporarily transferring our vehicle insurance from our personal vehichle to our rental vehicle. We pay the rental company with our credit card, and by doing (as with most major credit card companies), CDW is automatically covered with no extra charge. You should check this out with your insurance agent/credit card provider. It may be cheaper for you to pass on the ';complimentary'; car hire, and do it on your own.
The rules for visitors from the UK are totally different.
