West Palm Beach to Miami transportation

We are flying into West Palm Beach the day before our cruise leaves. We want to stay in Miami (downtown area). I can rent a car, but am a bit hesitant because of traffic in Miami. Is it real bad? We would be getting there between 1-2pm on a friday. I%26#39;ve looked into the Tri-rail and it%26#39;s not a bad idea since we aren%26#39;t in a big hurry. Can someone explain the exact process from PBI-MIA? Is it one train or connecting? We would each have one checked bag and a carryon (77, 45, and 8 years old). One last question....I don%26#39;t think there are any car rentals at the Port, but does anyone know if Thrifty at MIA airport runs a shuttle to the Port? I will definitely rent a car on my return since my flight leaves at 2pm out of PBI, but I was just curious about the Tri-rail. I thought my 8 year old daughter might get a kick out of it. Thanks for your help!

West Palm Beach to Miami transportation

At West Palm Beach Airport arrivals ask for the Tri-Rail shuttle (Palm Tran buses 40 %26amp; 44) to Tri-Rail station. Buy tickets. Take that to Miami International Airport Station (end of the line) %26amp; take another bus. At MIA you can pick up your rental car %26amp; drive to Miami Beach. By that time it will be Friday rush hour, so it will be slow. OR . . . from MIA take a cab to Miami Beach. For three people it will be cheaper than three fares on the airport shuttle %26amp; you can save the parking %26amp; daily rental charge. Then take a cab to the cruise port. There are rental agencies close to the port for when you return. Just reserve for your return day.
