Waterscape Review

My family and I just stayed a week at Waterscape and here is my humble opinion:

In the words of my grandmother, Unit A620 was “brand, spanking new”; nary a nick of the furniture and the appliances were new and of course modern. The stove cooked outstanding scrambled eggs and the refrigerator dispensed crushed ice. Dishwasher was quite. The condo was tastefully decorated and though it had a fishy theme, it was all done in taste. (We have stayed in a few that had some weird décor, but not A620.) Nice shower and an incredibly comfortable king bed. This was a one bedroom with a bunk area that our 13-year-old enjoyed having to himself.

Waterscape has two pools, one heated, one not, and a lazy river that is not heated. They also have two hot tubs that were never empty. Don’t expect a nice long hot tub-soak all by your lonesome. Ain’t happening. Which brings us to the issue of whether these pools and the beach area will support this many units. I think you will have to pick your spots. Around dinner (5:00 or so) there were plenty of chairs available. In the heat of the day, around the heated pool in the second week of April, you were lucky to get one. Warmer weather will bring a greater migration to the zero depth (unheated) pool and to the beach and should relieve some of this. Warmer weather will also bring longer hours to swim.

Be wary, one must have HCT (High Child Tolerance). Luckily we do and enjoyed the many youngsters around the pool area. However for those with a Low CT, you might find a quieter spot. If you are a family with young children this is the place for you. If you have ever told children to “get off your lawn”, you might pick somewhere else.

The pool area is an aesthetic overload. No, that’s not bad, but if you’re looking for “Old Florida” you want find it here. This is not your parent’s old Seaweed Motel with one cracked tiny pool and a handwritten “No Vacancy” sign hung in the door. All balconies except the end units overlook perfect blue watered pools, blooming flowers and swaying palm trees. A little contrived but pleasing to the eye. All units except the end units have a partial view of the gulf which I find more than satisfying. After all, we spent hours sitting on the beach staring at the same gulf.

Parking is in a structure by which you get access with a code. We stayed on the sixth floor therefore we drove to the top and parked just down the hall from our room. That made unloading and loading very easy.

Waterscape also had a very nice exercise room.

It’s hard to come up with a negative about our unit. Oh, maybe the commode was too close to the tub. But that’s terribly nit picky. We loved it!

Why would I go back:

The Security: men and women in blue security shirts roamed the premises day and night and it was required that you have wrist bands when around the pool area. We saw the importance of this when three or four youths that were not staying there came in off the beach to swim. Security had them out pretty quickly. It seemed very secure anyway, whether it was or not.

Beach service: free service however they do suggest tipping. It was very nice having the chairs and umbrella set up for you. As we were driving in Destin we saw a family crossing busy 98 dragging chairs and other beach paraphernalia and were glad we were on the beach with beach service; a definite plus.

Why I wouldn’t go back:

Nothing really. $1200 for a week (one bedroom, bunk area) seemed relatively reasonable and we enjoyed the newness of the complex. Still slightly concerned over overcrowding but such is the nature of the beast.

sounds like i could stay forever.

I%26#39;m just lauging at the HCT vs LCT with LCT being defined by if you%26#39;ve ever told a child to %26#39;get off your lawn.%26#39; I%26#39;m totally using that acronymn.

A few questions:

1. This is actually in FWB?

2. How many units are there?

3. How crowded was the beach? 1 row of chairs or several?

4. Was your room rate for a gulf front or overlooking the pool?

5. How long did you wait for the elevator?

6. Did you get the same beach chairs every day or did you have to wait in line to reserve your spot?

Thanks.

1. This is on Okaloosa Island just over the bridge from Fort Walton.

2. Not exactly sure how many units there are but I would say aproximately 240. Somebody else might know for sure.

3. Beach was not crowded. One row of chairs everyday however this was the second week of April and there were some chilly days. The sunniest day might have started a second row of chairs.

4. Rate was overlooking the pool however all units have a ';partial'; view of the gulf. Again, all I really needed.

5. Never waited long for an elevator. Maybe 30 seconds at the most. Again, some of the units were not even furnished yet, so there might be a concern with a packed Waterscape.

6. Did not wait in line to reserve a spot. Plenty of beach room. However, again, this was the second week of April and I still have a slight concern when the complex is full. I guess we will see.

The link below gives you information. We booked through VRBO.

Wonderful report. I will be waiting on the where and what you ate report.

Another Broken Egg- The Potatoes Sensation was, well, sensational. And what a menu! Don%26#39;t miss this place. Had to wait a few minutes as the one in Destin is rather small, but it was worth the wait.

Fokkers Sports Pub- We stayed at Waterscape and they delivered pizza right to our door. I think it was the crust that had a garlic taste to it but it was some of the best pizza I have ever eaten.

Dewey Destin%26#39;s- Great atmosphere, decent food. I got the Shrimp and it was good, not great. The Hushpuppies were outstanding. I can%26#39;t rave about it but it was a fun place to eat.

Old Bay Steamer- Rather expensive. About $20 per meal. Shrimp was good, wife said the New York Strip was very good and the son said the ribs were very, very good.

Fudpuckers- Had decided before we went not to go there but it is right behind Waterscape where we stayed so we strolled over there one night. It took 50 minutes from the time we ordered to get our food. Once the food came it was pretty good. I got a fish sandwich that was flaky and delicious. They gave us half off the price.

Brooks Cafe- I come from a region with great barbecue so I have a pretty high standard when it comes to this. I got the chicken and it was just okay. Sauce needs a bite to it. Around home if it doesn%26#39;t sear a hole in your colon it%26#39;s not spicy enough. But not bad for, as my dad used to say, rough grubb.

Great review. I am still laughing at HCT and LCT!

I am using those from now on.

Way to go andrew11....

Oh, let me add to the eating ';Whataburger';. We don%26#39;t have those where I come from but it tasted much like Sonic Restaurant that we have here at home. We arrived the first day and were starved and in the area so we scarfed them down. There are better choices. It didn%26#39;t taste bad but the BTB (Bun To Burger) Ratio was maybe 75 bread, 25 burger. Go to Wendy%26#39;s if you are making a fast food choice.

Oh how I wish we had Whataburger in KY! We always go when we%26#39;re in the south. Never really got that ';sonic'; type taste though. In fact, minus the mustard and add ketchup %26amp; mayo and you%26#39;ve got a Whopper, only way better than BK.

Great report, Andrew! Good writing skills and humor. And thank-you for using paragraphs! Sometimes people get so excited about their report they forget to occasionally hit ';enter'; twice and it makes them hard to read.

Why don%26#39;t you pm Pup4 and recommend this place. It sounds like just what she is looking for..... ; )
