we are staying in orlando for a week then driving down to the keys, how far do we go? and where do we stay in the Keys? bare in mind we have 3 children with us, any idea how long it will take us and what will be the best place to stay in the Keys for a relaxing beach rest with great snorkeling, diving and a swim with the dolphins

Your focus seems to be on orlando/disney. To get a good taste of the Keys, I would suggest the Marathon/Key Colony Beach area. We just got back from our trip down there, and I liked that area the best. Best beach there is Sombrero beach, one of the better ones in the Keys. Great area for kids, slower pace, and not the rambunctiousness of Key West.

We are coming out in october the children are 8, 13. and 16.

I would also suggest Key Colony Beach / Marathon. Dolphin research center is nearby, Theater of the Sea is 30 miles away, and Hawk%26#39;s Cay is nearby - all have dolphin swims. Hawks Cay is great for families.

I%26#39;m not positive - but I think it takes about 6 -7 hrs from Orlando.

Marathon is about a 5.5 hour drive from Orlando. With three children who are need to wind down from Orlando - It%26#39;ll be a LONG drive.

Key Largo is one hour closer and has a lot to offer and is a good place to chill. Marathon would add that extra hr and is very nice too. Marathon seems quieter to us than Key Largo.
