I presume you mean that you have your UK mobile %26amp; SIM with you in the US and you want to send an SMS to another UK mobile number.
Cost varies from supplier to supplier but will be 25-40p ballpark per text. It won%26#39;t form part of any free/inclusive allowance.
As you say, voice calls are costly at around 拢1 (maybe more) a minute.
Your own supplier%26#39;s website will tell you the exact figure.
Other pointers (in case you weren%26#39;t aware)
1: You will need a Tri-band or Quad-band handset or it won%26#39;t work at all in the US
2: You may need to contact your network to enable roaming.
3: Remember to store all your numbers in the international format beginning with + and then 44 for the UK (example 01234 567890 would be stored as +441234567890).
4: It costs a lot to RECEIVE an incoming call while you are roaming - 65-80p per minute - so, if it rings, don%26#39;t answer it!! And don%26#39;t call your answerphone either.

Jimbob.
That was a very good question.
And SCAN60 a great answer. That is something I never thought of and I thought I had everything covered.
You can get some great advice on this Forum by just browsing.

Scan 60, We just got back on Saturday and i have to say i got extremely frustrated with my phone out there.I am on T Mobile and it came up as Cingular T-Mobile. My phone was rubbish, i could only phone my Son (with us) because he was on same Network. But couldnt phone or text anyone else. I have QuadBand.Even if i did phone my Son i would sometimes just press the green phone icon to redial and even that wouldnt always work. You said to dial UK its +44. How do you type in the + ? And it always kept coming up scanning/searching network. Its a Samsung only a year old so thought it would just do e verything automatically like my Sons Sony Ericson did.
Thanks
Caz.
On my phone to get the + sign I hit the star sign on the lower left hand corner twice.

Hi Everyone,
May I suggest you purchase a cheap US phone, allowing you to phone home at a fraction of the price our providers charge. The phone will also allow you to keep in touch whilst out there.
Our friends at Walmart have some great deals, check out this one...

Just found my + button.It%26#39;s on 0.I looked for ages when out there and couldnt see it!!
Just looked at the Nokia @ Walmart. What a fantastic bargain.Does it come with Charger and Memory Card complete. My Son could of done with that he spent $80 in 10 days but i refused to top him up again.I did prewarn him how expensive it was but he wouldnt listen.

Hi Caz,
Yes everything comes with it !!!
We purchased 2 on our last visit, and found them to be excellent value, even for just keeping in touch around the parks or pool.
Couldnt text home however, but phoned quite regularly and had plenty of mins left at the end of our hols.
The worst thing about this phone is the extorsionate price of 15 cents a minute to phone home...lol
I did briefly read something about this before we left. But as it was we didnt get to Walmart unitl the last evening. But if i had known how much of a bargain it was i would have gone there the first night. It would have solved so many arguments between Danny %26amp; I about him phoning his girlfriend in the UK.
