Tortuga inn no safe deposit box??

We have reservations for the Tortuga Inn. I just discovered the rooms don%26#39;t have a safe deposit. So I know AMI is very laid back and think most hotels don%26#39;t have a safe(?). I%26#39;m wondering how you handle this %26#39;problem%26#39; Do you carry your passports, tickets etc to the beach?

Does someone knows if the Tortuga Inn has a reception where we can put our valuables in a safe? I tried to call them but didn%26#39;t get through.

Tortuga inn no safe deposit box??

Ciskey, It%26#39;s funny that you ask this question because I have never really thought about it when I am in Anna Maria but I do use them when I am in other places. It is a very safe place, we have left beach towels, radio%26#39;s, picnic baskets, shoes, all kinds of things on the beach for hours, even over night (when we forget them) and have never had a problem in the many, many years that we have been visiting.

Having said that though, if it is a concern to you I would definately get in touch with the inn and find out if they do have a safe box. Will you have a rental car? If so, maybe you would feel safe about locking your items in your trunk? The only other idea I can think of is checking with one of the banks on the island.

Tortuga inn no safe deposit box??

Thanks Rustykat. I%26#39;ll try to contact the Tortuga Inn. meanwhile I%26#39;m counting the days............

hey ciscey...

don´t worry about a safe!

this is not a place for criminal activities.

you can never promise that, but usually that is one of the nicest and non-criminal places in the world.

you could easily leave your camera on your beach towel and go for a swim in the gulf :--)

you´ll love it there!

62 days to go!!! whooohoooo!!!

You can email them or fill in their online contact form if there is still time or if you want to save the cost of an international call.

If you want to know right away, let me know and I will call to see if they have a safe in their office for guests to use.

Most places have a safe in the office you can use for passports and tickets. If not, put them in a suitcase and lock it. Personally, I would not take those items to the beach--just too hard to replace. Otherwise, the island is safe. Use common sense like you would anywhere. Did have a couple of beach chairs disappear several years ago, but otherwise no problems.

Thank you ALL for your replies!!

I%26#39;ve called them: they do have an office deposit box, so we can put our passports there. (I%26#39;m always a little uptied about these things...., maybe too much I dont%26#39;know)

And now I%26#39;m counting the days, just 12 days to go before we start our trip to the USA! And just 20 days before we will see AMI..................

Hey Floridianer: which condo is yours at the Costa. I know you have a web-site for this condo but I forgot the adress. Planning to take a look at it (but I think it will be occupied?)

Yeah, ciskey, it will be occupied ...

But very nice people from dusseldorf will be there by then and they will probably let you have a look :-))

it is unit 120

and the site is

www.florida-ferienwohnung.de

have fun and have a wonderful holiday in paradise!!!

I do not want to contradict Ciskey, but there was no box till last week when we visited and asked for one. Don’t freak out!! They had some renovation going on in a room adjacent to the reception/check-in, may be that is where they have some arrangements for you. I never knew a feedback would work so fast! I will write my trip report as soon I get some time from work, hopefully by end of this week. I hate it when you have a lot of work after a nice vacation.

Also, as all of the people above mentioned, AMI is a pretty safe place. There are no people anywhere hanging out for no reason. I keep my wallet, watch, camera and cell phone with me all the time and I can’t take it all in the water. I always left them with the beach towel. And I had no problem with that for the whole week. One more thing I happened to know, an incident, because I was there at that time. A guy came to the trolley driver and asked him about a bag he forgot in one of the trolleys. After a couple of hours he got it back.

Good luck for the trip.

Saumital - Cant wait for your report! That is so funny about the safe deposit box, I actually called them when Ciskey asked the question, I didnt get the hotel, I got Resort Quest and talked to a lady about it and she was to leave a message for the inn that there was concerns about not having one. WOW, they work fast!

THNX Rustykat for your effort! Maybe the Tortuga will make some changes for the future.

I hope you%26#39;ll write your tripreport before next Wednesday Saumital, so I can enjoy it before we go to NYC! 7 nights to go.........................I%26#39;m so excited!
