Hi My husband and I are thinking of 10 days in Florida starting 10 May. We like to drive around, particularly ocean roads so are thinking of flying to Miami, spend a couple of days in the city, then drive down to the keys for a couple of days (the road looks AMAZING) find a dolphin swim, then back up to the Everglades, airboat tour then up to Orlando via the west coast, Orlando for two days then back down via the east coast.
So, does this all sound a comfortable 10 days or should we trim it up a bit do you think? And if it is achievable which are the must stop places on route to and from Orlando?
We%26#39;re not hugely active (we wont be diving or hiking) and we%26#39;re not mad about theme parks (but feel we must see Disney while we%26#39;re over there)we just like to drive or walk around looking at wonderful scenery (natural or architectural) and people and chill out over a nice meal.
We did the PCH between SF and LA a couple of years ago and it was fantastic. Any advice on how to see as much as possible without spending all day in the
the car would be really appreciated.
First trip to Florida
Everything sounds pretty doable in 10 days. Except Disney. That would not be advisable as a day trip from Miami/South Florida. I would suggest skip Disney this time around and stick to the other activities.
Driving in South Florida, the keys and especially the Everglades will be VERY different from driving the PCH. South Florida is VERY flat. There is more elevation change in the first 100 yards from the Pacific Ocean than the whole of Florida.
One nice thing about your plan sans Disney is a better chance to see Florida not so much as a tourist. Oh, there will be plenty of touristy things but if you get off the beaten path (be careful doing that in Miami for your safety) the better flavor you will get of how Floridians actually live, work, and have fun.
And we look forward to your visit. Bring money! We need it!
