I%26#39;ve decided to splurge and get a convertible when we%26#39;re in Orlando instead of the standard midsize we usually get while on vacation. I%26#39;ve found that Alamo seems to be the least expensive, using my AAA discount.
But upon looking at Mousesavers, I saw that Alamo isn%26#39;t listed as one of their top rental agencies. I was just curious if anyone had rented from them from MCO, and what their experience was like. I joined National%26#39;s Emerald Aisle club, through Mousesavers, waived the $50 joining fee. But the lowest National quote I can find is about $70 more. Should I go with the cheaper reservation and just hope we get a nice convertible? I know with the Emerald Aisle you can usually select which car it is you want, but I admit I%26#39;m a novice when it comes to renting from either. We always rent through Enterprise up here in PA.
Any suggestions or advice would be so very helpful!
Alamo Out of MCO
We always use Alamo and did so last year from MCO.
We have never had a problem with them ,the girl on the desk did try to push us into an upgrade but we were quite happy with the full size we had booked.
Personally if I was upgrading I would go for a SUV, we drive one at home and after having an accident with a regular car last month I was so glad I was driving one, hardly a mark on our SUV and the other car was smashed to bits.
Alamo Out of MCO
Well I%26#39;m figuring since I%26#39;m already going for a convertible, I won%26#39;t have to worry about the upgrading argument. I actually contemplated an SUV, but we both have one up here, and I%26#39;d like to try something more %26#39;when in Rome-ish%26#39; lol
But it sounds like you haven%26#39;t had any trouble. Car quality is nice and up to spec?
I cant speak specifically about their convertible choices at MCO but I have always used Alamo including at MCO and never had any problem. They allow everyone to pick which car (within your class) that you want and unlike some of the other%26#39;s are right at the terminal, no shuttle bus to cacth. Also depending on your circumstances you can do an online check in or use the self check in kiosk and skip the counter, just walk right out to the garage pick your car get in and go, stopping at the gate of course to show them your paperwork. I have used Alamo probably a dozen times now with no problems other than a couple of pushy counter clerks trying to push the insurances on me but I think all companies do that. Of course now that you can skip the counter you dont even have to deal with an agent.
We%26#39;ve never had a problem with Alamo. We did use National last time because I got a good rate and am an Emerald Club member. But Alamo and National are owned by the same company. National is the business rental agency and Alamo is classed as the Leisure part. They operate the same as far as you can pick your own vehicle from the class that you reserve etc. I%26#39;d go for the Alamo rental.
Piper, I would wonder if you%26#39;d really want to spend all that extra $$$ on the convertible. My husband and I did a couple of years ago, and believe me, the ride from the airport to the hotel was wondddddderful as we were so happy to be out in the sunshine. But this Florida sun can catch up with you REAL quick.... and we experienced plenty of sunburned necks, shoulders, scalp, etc. that by the 3rd day, the top never came down again. It was a terrible waste of money that could have been spent (wildly!!) elsewhere. Just my constructive advice. In any case, have a wonderful time!!! (And don%26#39;t forget sunscreen!!!)
We were very pleased with our car ,spotless but black leather sure does heat up in August.
Thanks to all of you!
I think I%26#39;m gonna stick with Alamo for right now, and just keep an eye on some other rates. It sounds as though all of you have had plenty of luck with them, so I%26#39;m far less concerned now.
Thanks again!
So what cars do they have in their mid-class range? Also do any have built in nav units?
