What to do in a few hours

Hi we are arriving into Fort Lauderdale by cruise ship so will disembark around 9am and our flights back to UK leave FL airport around 4pm in the afternoon.

Any ideas how we could spend that few hours and where we could store the luggage??

There will be four of us,did wonder about hiring a tour guide with vechile but would this be really expensive??

Don%26#39;t feel like sitting in the airport all day

Thanks

There is certainly a luggage storage place on terminal 2 $6 per bag. I don%26#39;t know about the other terminals. Delta would not let us check our bags until 2 hours prior to the flight time (this may not apply to other airlines you would need to check). Bearing in mind that you will need to be back at the airport at around 2PM I would get a taxi to Las Olas Boulevard and walk around the shops and sit outside one of the many restaurants and have lunch. Not really enough time to do much else IMO.

You can also take a taxi to Beach Place and go to Sloppy Joe%26#39;s for lunch. It%26#39;s a nice way to relax before your long flight. Here is a link to the view that you would have. http://www.sunny.org/webcam/camapp.cfm.

Just make sure that you leave plenty of time to get through security before your flight.

Thanks for the suggestions,we are using Delta so would need to use storage lockers until we check in.

Even though we will only have a few hours,it%26#39;s better to spend them out and about than sitting in an airport lounge

will see what the weather is like that day and take it from there.

Have only been to the cruise port at FL once before if I remember correctly it is not too far from airport ,is that correct?

What is the journey time in taxi to shopping or beach??

Taxi to the beach around 20 minutes dependent on traffic ditto for Las Olas. If you are flying Delta I guess it will be terminal 2. I suggest you don%26#39;t wait until you get through check in to eat, as the choices are very limited.

If there are four of you and many bags, you can probably rent a mid sized car for about the same as it would cost you for luggage storage not to merntion taxi to and from - just be sure it is a firm that will fetch you at the Port and let you return it to FLL ( Port and Airport are quite close together). I know not all rental agencies offer thisapparently because of the need to pay an access fee if their shuttle enters the Port. Some day I am should try to compile a list of those who do- you might start by inquiring with Thrifty as they have an office right outside the gate at the Port which I assume is for that purpose. Just make sure you are clear about your need to be picked up at the Port and return the car to the Airport so you cvan be certian it%26#39;s permitted and if any extra fee is charged.

TA%26#39;s sister site www.cruisecritic.com has a section called Boards, much like these forums and one section is Ports of Call where those who have done this successfully in Fort Lauderdale may be able to suggest a firm. With a rental you can go down to Las Olas or drive along the beach at your own pace.Other wise youy would have to taxi to the Airport to use the storage( it%26#39;s a service not lockers) and then two additional taxi charges after that, You really don%26#39;t need a tour ';guide'; I would say - it%26#39;s not hard to get around and the rental agent can give you a little map and directions to Las Olas Blvd and/or the beach.

Give yourself plenty of time back at the airport though- post cruise days often cause big crowds at the airport.

Sue, to my knowledge , all the airlines at FLL have the two hour luggage check policy, as I see many cruisers sitting around the airport babysitting their bags.

Good to know that they are all 2 hours before the flight. Delta told me to arrive at the airport early and that I could check my bags any time before the flight. Needless to say I was sitting on the floor with all of the cruise passengers ';babysitting'; my luggage and cursing the Delta agent who gave me the wrong info. I did manage to get $200 in vouchers off them for my next flight and a replacement suitcase for the one they tore, so I suppose I will use them again if the price is right, even though it was the flight from hell on both the inbound and outbound journeys.
