Huge Price increase since booking in January

My Best friend and her family are thinking going away over Xmas. We paid 拢2000 (discount of 拢273) for 2 Adults %26amp; Teenager staying at Disney Pop Century. And yesterday i priced up the same Holiday and the prices i got back were 拢4400 or 拢6600. How can that happen?? That is absolutely outrageous!!! So i think booking on line is the way togo for her. It just goes to show that it pays to book early. I will enjoy my holiday even more now that i realise what a good price i got,

Christmas is Peak Season. Disney has 3 seasons. Value, average, and peak. Depends when you travel what the prices are.

Thats maddness though how can they expect someone to pay over twice as much for exactly the same holiday.Went onto Holiday Genie this morning and they want 拢804 pp (Virgin flight). That was more like it.

Sometimes when you book really early you get the better rate and when you wait till the last minute you pay a higher price that%26#39;s why I book as soon as I can to get the cheaper rate.

All american hotels are that way. Summer, holidays, and weekends are a higher rate. It%26#39;s about supply %26amp; demand. Peak times will just cost you more. I%26#39;m not saying it%26#39;s right, but it%26#39;s how travel works here.

Some hotels that cater exclusively to business travelers are more expensive during the week and run specials on the weekends when they are usually empty.

I%26#39;ll assume the airfare is actually a good hunk of the increase, since Disney prices are generally fixed.

What you hit is something called capacity yield management. Let%26#39;s say a plane has 100 seats. The first X seats on a given flight in coach are in the cheapest fare class with the most restrictions, the next 10 are in the next class up and so on. So, if you get there early enough to snag one of those early 10, great! Seems simple, right?

Well no, because the airlines also look at sales trends and adjust the fare buckets (moving seats from fare class X to Y as indicated) on an almost daily basis. Add to that the fact that the fare basis themselves constantly change, and you get results like you did.

The poster was comparing Identical holidays at identical time. Only the time of booking was differant.

Sorry, I thought Caz just returned and her friend was trying to go at Christmas.

Yeah, according to airfare trend analysis, Xmas 08 domestic airfare is around 30-40% higher than 2 months ago (based on actual available, not published fares), intl is running about 30%. Not sure what the time frame was between OPs quotes.

Caz, some of this is down to the price of fuel for the planes. But the americans now know the pound is very strong against the dollar. they also know more and more brits are coming over at christmas. I have been going for over for years at christmas and always buy my flights as soon as i get back for the next time.

I have seen a huge increase in the number of brits flying in at christmas. Virgin fly 2 or 3 flights a day from gatwick and manchester everyday into orlando, plus BA and all the other airlines so you have potentially 5000 a day coming in if not more. Plus more americans are now taking a longer christmas break and with the american football matches happening over the christmas break everyone converges on Orlando. Supply and demand.

Do what i do, stay out of orlando and drive in and you can still get great deals.

It%26#39;s very common to get much better deals by booking far in advance. I%26#39;m kinda surprised this is a novel concept. If you try to book the same trip in November, it will probably be even more expensive or not available at all.
