Hi, I am arriving at Tampa airport on a Sunday at 11.00 and have to wait until my brother arrives from UK at 4.00. Any ideas on what to do with my time I will have a car?? Beaches closeby, museums?

Are you leaving the Tampa Bay area after your brother arrives? Heading inland where there will be no beaches?

Although there is one beach, Ben T Davis, that%26#39;s only about 10 minutes from the airport, it is on Tampa Bay, not the Gulf, and I wouldn%26#39;t bother with it. If you are headed to beaches in another area when your brother arrives, I might skip the beach and do a museum or shopping. The best mall in Tampa, International Plaza, is only about 5 minutes from the airport. If you%26#39;d rather do a museum, if I could chose only one in the Tampa Bay area it%26#39;d be the Dali Museum in St Petersburg. It is absolutely fascinating.

Any of the worthwhile beaches will take you 40 minutes or so from the airport. Again, if I could chose one, it%26#39;d be Ft Desoto Beach. Next favorite, simply because it%26#39;s easy to get to (interstate) from the airport would be St Pete Beach. Clearwater Beach is a straight shot out hwy 60, but one heck of an annoying drive as it%26#39;s not interstate and the traffic lights get you every bit of the distance across Clearwater...then you get out to Clearwater Beach and struggle to find parking.

Thanks for reply. How far is it to St. Petersburg from Airport. We will be at beach for 3 weeks so not so important but after the winter on Cape Cod I need sea, sun and sand!!

It will take you about 25 minutes to get to the Dali Museum from TIA.

By the time you get your rental car, and have a leisurely lunch nearby, you%26#39;ll probably only have 2 more hours to kill.

The International Plaza is not far from the airport if you like to shop. There are also some good places there to eat lunch. :O)
